Hooping Etiquette.

1. By all means, bring your hoop to a party or club, but if there are a ton of happy people dancing, don't whip it out in the middle of them and start hooping. It just takes up too much space.

2. If you are hooping indoors, with lots of people standing close, relax. Take it a little easy. And ... drop it twice and you're out. Move away before you do some damage, drink some water and don't drive.

    The hoop nazi has spoken!

    Anyone ever seen Paynie hoop?

It's interesting, a few years ago Paynie could have substituted 'fire-performers' in here. A few years before that... 'poi-spinners', or even break-dancers if you wanna go way back.

    How bout this...

If a bunch of people want someone to hoop in the middle of a crowded space and that person can be reasonably safe in doing so (not hitting anyone or breaking anything), then I say GO FOR IT!... And you know what?... Drop the hoop as much as you want!

    However...

If you do HIT someone, piss someone off (besides Porter or Paynie), or break something, THEN you're out. No "but's" about it. You're done.
And you should seriously consider the next time you even think about being a dumb-ass again...

I agree w/ Paynie for my own reason that said 'dumb-asses' wreck it for the rest of us hoopers who always strive to be aware of people and the environment around us.

If you're gonna hoop inside a dark crowded party, you BETTER have an LED hoop and you BETTER grow eyes in the back of your head. You NEED to know when a person is coming at you BEFORE even they know it themselves. Some hoopers understand what I mean by this...

When in doubt, err on the side of caution!

But rip it up when it's all clear!

Just don't let Paynie see you.

Yes, I only try to hoop where I see an open space and always try to be aware of people around me. The last thing I want to do is break someone's nose or something. If it's too dangerous or crowded, yes, I will yield the floor to dancers. Some hoopers are so good though, I think dancers are sometimes happy to yield the floor to them for a bit so they can watch.

Also on the subject of hooping etiquette, I noticed at that party some people playing around with hoops for the first time were spinning the hoops on the floor. This may have been the thing to do with hoops when they were $5 plastic Hasbro specials, but the hoops you find at parties today are usually hand-made by our friends or ourselves, or purchased at an expense, and spinning them on the floor tears up the tape! By all means try and explore the hoops, but please don't spin them on the floor, and before you whip the hoop around to begin hooping, make sure no one is behind you! Thanks.

No one has seen me hoop. I only do it at night, on the top of a mountain, naked.

It's all about common sense. There's also a "photography etiquette." I try not to piss people off doing that at parties as well.

Hooping at parties certainly does not piss me off. Some of my best friends are hoopers. Jeez, I've even dated a few. :)
All I'm saying is take a little care, before someone takes an eye out. Hey Porter, can I bring bagpipes to your next gig?

also some common sense points: if there's just enough room, use just that room to do things inside the body, don't flip out into big arm movements or things around the outside of the body.

I do totally agree with this, however is it not the most annoying thing when you are hooping at an event with plenty of space, lots of space around you, with an LED hoop and someone still walks straight at you? I know we take up extra space and need to be aware of others, I am usually constantly turning so I can keep an eye out, but when people walk straight at the glowing spinning thing I can not help but roll my eyes at them.
